According to the reports, BJP MLA from Sardhana Assembly constituency in Meerut, alleged that the name of "Muzaffarnagar" had been given by Nawab Muzaffar Ali and since a long time there is a demand for changing it. "We are just trying to restore the culture that was destroyed by the intruders and there is nothing wrong in it, "Som said. Som is also one of accused in the Muzaffarnagar riots cases. On the other hand, Som claimed that the opposition should be clear about their stand on the name changing of cities and stop bragging when they know BJP is making the right move. "The Mughals had always worked to destroy our culture especially Hinduvta, we are just trying to save it and we will keep moving forward in this direction," he said. As yet, the state government claiming it as restoration of the original name, changed the name of Allahabad to "Prayagraj".
