Punjab Police arrest 5, two absconding; Colleges, varsities asked to conduct background check | Kashmiri students pose threat to national security | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 11: During the past one and a half month Punjab Police have arrested five Kashmiri youth on the charges of being involved in terror related activities. The three students were arrested last month in a joint operation by the Punjab Police and Special Operations Group (SoG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police from the hostel of CT Institute of Engineering Management and Technology, located in Shahpur on the outskirts of Jalandhar. Two weapons, including an Assault Rifle, were also reportedly seized from them along with explosives. Initial investigations had revealed that the students, identified as Zahid Gulzar, Mohammad Idriss Shah and Yusuf Rafiq Bhatt, were associated with Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGH) headed by Zakir Rashid Bhatt alias Zakir Mussa. Recently Punjab Police arrested two more Kashmiri youth for their involvement in Maqsudan Police Station blast. Their two accomplices are still believed to be absconding. "Five Kashmiri youth who have been arrested so far are the part of the AGW module, which has been active in Punjab for sometime now," said an official. After Punjab Police conducting the initial investigation, the case has been handed over to National Investigating Agency for the further probe. "Kashmiri students joining terror modules, is a cause of concern. This trend needs to be checked and reversed. Such students who have joined the terror modules and are studying in different parts of the country can become a potential threat for the national security and can carry out a big attack," said an analyst. He said, "People who beat their chest about Kashmiri students being persecuted in other states should sit back and introspect rather than delivering sermons and blaming other states for tightening noose around the Kashmiri students. They need to tell the students that terrorism is no solution and the colleges and the universities where they get admission allow them to build their careers. They should not use these platforms for promoting terror and spreading hate." The analyst said that Kashmiri students by indulging in such activities are putting the future of all the Kashmiri students studying in the other states in jeopardy. "No state would ever allow any outsider to spread radicalism and terror as no state wants to breed terrorists and their supporters. Kashmiri students who are in the other states should focus on their studies rather than getting involved in anti-national acts," he added. A defence analyst said that colleges and varsities should perform a complete background check of the students before giving them admission in any of the courses. "Preventive measures have to be put at place to thwart the designs of the terrorists," he added. |
