DGGI team cracks down on tax evaders | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 18: In first of its kind action against indirect tax evasion in Kashmir valley, the Chandigarh Zonal Unit of Directorate General Of Goods & Service Tax Intelligence(DGGI) conducted simultaneous search and seizure operations on premises of two manufacturers across Srinagar, Budgam , Baramulla and Anantnag districts. DGGI is a premier intelligence agency of Ministry of Finance , Government Of India, which is responsible for checking GST evasion across India. According to sources, DGGI has developed specific information that these manufacturers in Kashmir valley are suppressing their total monthly value of goods cleared in their monthly returns filed with GST authorities. This clandestine removal of goods without payment of appropriate tax was causing huge loss of tax revenues to both state and central governments. These practices also, leads to unhealthy competition among businesses and loss to honest taxpayers. Working on the intelligence developed, different teams of DGGI comprising about 25 officers in a coordinated manner conducted searches across five premises of these businesses. The security for the searching teams was provided by CRPF personnel. During the searches, large amount of incriminating documents and computer data were recovered which established the intelligence. Both the business units accepted the suppression of taxable supplies on their part. Further investigations to establish exact quantum of tax evasion is under progress. It is also informed that DGGI , Jammu Regional Unit , which has jurisdiction over state of Jammu & Kashmir has recovered about 30 crore rupees in its anti-evasion actions in past six months from businesses/establishments across Jammu province. |
