Early Times Report MENDHAR, Nov 18: Family of a panch who was elected unopposed here has accused a runner-up candidate of Sarpanch of Halqa Hundiayan in Surankote of Poonch district of creating bedlam outside his house, leading to the death of his mother due to a heart attack. Deputy Superintendent of Police Reyaz Ahmad said that police have taken cognizance and started an investigation into the allegations by the Panch-Gulzar Ahmad and his family. "As soon as we got the information, I along with a team of police personnel reached the spot and got the postmortem done," he said, adding, "The body was later handed over to family for last rites while police started investigation into the claims made by the family of the deceased woman, Barkat Bi wife of Sufi of Mahroate." According to Gulzar, his mother, a septuagenarian, cast her vote and was hale and hearty. "As soon as Mohammad Yousuf (Sarpanch) won, Rashid Ahmad (runner-up candidate) and his supporters created bedlam outside our house as a result of which my mother died of heart attack," he said. Gulzar reportedly supported Yousuf for the post of Sarpanch and this enraged Rashid. Meanwhile, Rashid could not be contacted for comments. |
