Stone-crushers illegally operating during night | Geology & Mining officials hand in glove | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 18: Several dozen stone crushing units have been extracting river-bed material from Ravi river during night hours, exposing the nexus between stone crusher operators and the officials of Geology and Mining department. Sources informed Early Times that though the mining permission in the River-Ravi had expired nearly three months back and on paper the mining from the Ravi river has been closed down by the department, but large number of dumpers and earth movers could be found digging the river-bed in violation of the mining permission from Lakhanpur to Jarai area. They further said that during night hours, number of dumpers and earth movers could be found in the Ravi river, digging the river bed and dumping at the crushers. "In official records the mining in the Ravi river has been closed but at ground level everything is going on as usual with active connivance of the officials of Geology and Mining department", sources said, adding that the criminal nexus has been causing huge financial loss to state exchequer but hugely benefitting the officials as well as stone crusher operators. Sources further said that if the administration took cognizance of the matter and initiates a thorough probe, all the illegal deeds of the stone-crusher operators as well as the officials of the concerned department could be exposed. |
