Early Times Report
srinagar, Nov 19: Kashmir is probably the only place in the world where an academician working in the government sector establishes his own concern and earns huge money by virtue of the same.
Not to talk of the teachers working in the government schools an academician working at the highest seat of learning in the Kashmir valley has broken all the records. This academician has established his own educational institute in the summer capital of the state.
Early Times has come to know from sources that the academician who teaches a science subject at the University of Kashmir is the owner of the school located in the Nowgam area of Srinagar district. Although, the people at helm at the varsity know about this thing, but surprisingly no action whatsoever has been taken so far.
"The academician has been teaching a subject at the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Kashmir for many years now. As on date he is heading the department and here too his role has also come under a scanner. Despite all this action is awaited against the academician," said sources.
Sources said that academician has named the educational institute after his own name and he claims that his educational institute is different from the other schools located in Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir valley. People have raised many questions about the functioning of his educational institute but the complaints have not been taken serious so far.
"The educational institute headed by the academician rusticated a student after the parent of student purchased the books from open market rather than a designated bookshop. In addition to this the school has been in news for all the wrong reasons but the concerned department has failed to act against the school," said sources.
Sources said that the academician who draws a monthly salary of two lakh rupees is notorious since he has been accused of manipulating result, merit list, recruitment and conduct of examinations at the varsity. The authorities of University of Kashmir including the present vice-chancellor know about all the wrongs but are showing reluctance to act against the academician.
"Being the head of department of a science subject the academician recently invited applications for admission to Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in the concerned subject. Scores of students applied for the PhD entrance test and paid the requisite fees as well. However, the academician cancelled the proposed entrance test and nobody dared to ask him as why the test was cancelled," said sources.
Sources said that the civil service rules are quite clear with regards to government servants and they (government servants) cannot take up any activity in private as long as they are in the government job. They said the academician has trampled the standing rules and has managed to run away with no action being taken against him.
