Train service remain suspended for security reasons | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 24: Train service remained suspended for security reasons the third day on Saturday in south Kashmir, where six militants were killed in an encounter by security forces in Anantnag on Friday. However, train service was normal in north Kashmir, a senior railway official told. He said a fresh advisory was received from the administration, including police not to resume train service in south Kashmir on Saturday also. He said therefore no train will chug on Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region. Large number of passengers who had reached to different railway station in south Kashmir and Banihal were disappointed after being informed about the suspension of the train service. The agitated passengers said there was no strike call from any organisation and suspension of the train service was unjustified. However, railway official said they are acting on the advice of local administration since security and safety of the passengers was necessary. Train service was operating normally in north Kashmir. Normally we expect good rush of passengers on Saturdays in the afternoon when people are going to their homes, he said adding again on Monday we see heavy rush in the morning when people are resuming their activities after Sunday holiday. Train service has become very popular in the valley as it is cheap, fast and safe against other mode of transport. |
