MLC Reshi's tweet leaves Mehbooba red-faced | Nobody intimidated me, don't use my name' | | Early Times Report srinagar, Nov 24: Even as former chief minister and Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti had accused the Bharatiya Janta Party of resorting to coercion and using NIA to intimidate her party members to break away, her own PDP member has publicly refuted her claims. In an interview to a New Delhi based daily Mehbooba had said that BJP has used every possible means to coerce and intimidate legislators so that they leave the party. Without naming 'senior BJP leader', she said, he would travel to Srinagar every fortnight and summon our MLAs and MLCs. "Why? They told our Wachi MLA Aijaz Ahmad Mir that he has only two options: either leave PDP, join them and be part of the government or go to jail for two years. This happened soon after one of his police guards stole rifles and joined militants. What was his fault? He was cooperating with the J&K Police investigation. Exactly the same happened to Yasir Reshi, our MLC. They used the NIA to intimidate him and his family," Mufti said. But MLC Yasir Reshi has openly refuted Mehbooba's claims asking her not to use his name any further. In a tweet, Reshi clarified that nobody had intimidated him. "I want to make it clear to everybody esp @MehboobaMufti that nobody intimidated me. I don't know y my name is being used. Only I decide my politics. Nobody can dictate to me or intimidate me. Request @MehboobaMufti to not use my name," Reshi tweeted. Reshi's tweet has become a talk of the town in the political circles. He is seen among the rebels in PDP who are likely to join the Peoples Conference led by Sajad Lone. Mehbooba has long been accusing the BJP and the Peoples Conference of trying to break her party. "The way the BJP is handling the situation here is a recipe for disaster. They don't care about the larger implications of their moves and are only concerned about their short term political advantage," she said. "It is the responsibility of each of the mainstream parties here to respond to this blatant coercion, misuse of law-enforcement agencies and unconstitutional and unethical moves to destroy J&K's place in the Union. We won't allow that. This is why we think there is an urgent need to come up with a democratic and constitutionally viable alternative," Mufti had told the New Delhi based daily. |
