Retired army jawan killed, 2 critically among 15 injured in clashes in Doda | Panchayat polls! | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 24: Retired Army Jawan was killed while two sustained severe injuries including 15 others after clashes broke out between supporters of two candidates of Panchayat elections, soon after result of Joura-Khurd Block of Kahara tehsil in Doda district was declared. The deceased person has been identified as retired Army jawan, Hafeez Ahmed son of Mohammed Shafi, while seriously injured have been identified as Dheeraj Kumar and Hushyar Singh and 13 others have also sustained injuries in stone pelting. As per reports, a woman candidate identified as Kanchana Chandail (backed by Congress) won after defeating Rehmutallah Butt (backed by BJP) in Joura-Khurd Block of Kahara tehsil in Doda district and after declaration of results clashes were broke out between the supporters of both the candidates. "Not satisfied over the results, the supporters of Rehmutallah, who lost Panchayat election became infuriated and reportedly attacked the supporters of winning candidate with stones, in the evening hours", said sources. After some heated arguments, more supporters joined the angry mob and attacked the people with stones and killed one of them and wounded three others. Immediately, more people rushed and clashes started between the supports of two rival candidates. Within no time, police rushed additional force to control the situation and did not allow assembly of people to avoid clashes. All these victims were the supports of the winning candidate. Police said that a case under FIR no. 107/18 under sections 302, 336 and 147 of RPC has been registered at Gandoh police station and further investigation in this regard is on however, no arrest was made when last reports came in. |
