Student of DPS selected to represent India in chess championship in China, Mexico | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 24: Soham Kamotra (IX-D), of Delhi Public School Jammu, an ace level Chess player brought laurels to the school and his parents by winning 1st Runner-up position and a silver medal in 7th National Amateur Chess Championship-2018 organized by Punjab State Chess Championship held at Jalandhar from 10-16 November, 2018. Out of 154 players from 18 states, Soham scored 9 points in 11 rounds and was placed 2nd. Earlier, he also won 1st position in State Chess Championship-2018 organized by All J&K Chess Association held at Srinagar from 16-22 October, 2018. Out of 14 players from Jammu and Kashmir province, Soham defeated his elderly opponents and scored 11.5 points out of 13. Soham was felicitated with a certificate and glittering trophies. Based on his excellent performance, Soham has been selected to represent India in two separate events at China and Mexico, namely Asian Amateur Chess Championship and World Amateur Chess Championship organized by Asian Chess Federation in collaboration with Chinese Chess Association & World Asian Amateur Chess Association respectively. It is also noteworthy that Soham has also been selected for World Youth Chess Championship-2019 to be held in March 2019 at Nagpur, India. Principal, DPS Jammu, Ruchi Chabra congratulated Soham and his parents for the achievement and blessed him for the upcoming events. |
