Women outnumber men in polling in Thanamandi block | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, Dec 1: 83.56 % polling has been reported for Darhal, Thanamandi and Planger blocks in Rajouri district during 6th phase of Panchayat elections in the state. It was first time that women in Thanamandi block have left behind men in using right to vote during ensuing panchayat elections in the district. Important to mention that out of 17507 eligible voters who used their right to vote in Thanamandi block 8864 were women while only 8663 men have cast their votes. Sources said all the three blocks are fully Muslim dominated and polling in Darhal block remained 82.05 %, 83.44% in Plangar and 85.50 in Thanamandi block. For 58 seats of sarpanches and 416 constituencies of panches out of 64746 eligible voters 54100 including 27090 women have cast their votes. For 23 sarpanch seats and 161 constituencies of panch in Darhal block there were 24810 eligible candidates including 11977 females out of which 20357 including 10136 women have cast their votes. In Thanamandi block for 20 sarpanch seats and 142 panch constituencies out of 20477 eligible candidates including 9817 women 17507 including 8844 women have voted in favour of their candidates. In Plangar block for 15 sarpanch and 113 panch constituencies out of 19459 eligible candidates 16236 have used their right to vote including 8110 women. Narinder Raina, District Information Officer (DIO) said that by and large the polling remained peaceful in all the three blocks and during polling MA Asad, DDC and Yougal Manahas, SSP visited several hyper sensitive and sensitive polling booths and held interactions with the candidates in fray and the voters |
