NC, PDP will fight together for JK's status: Mehbooba | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Dec 1: Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has said that she along with her political rival-National Conference- would fight together for the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. "We may differ in many things with the NC, but we will fight together to safeguard J&K's special status. I have met Farooq sahab (Farooq Abdullah) and others, including from the Congress, to cobble up a united front for this," Mehbooba said in an interview to a national magazine. She said that NC-Congress-PDP alliance was formed for the common interest of the people. "My father would always say Kashmiris have made so much sacrifice to achieve something more, but we have a constitution, special status and a flag, and our foremost duty is to protect what we have," she said. When asked about People's Conference leader Sajjad Lone's remarks that Mehbooba is a dynast, she said, "My father was not in power when I started my political career, or when I fought my first election in 1996. Starting like any ordinary person, I reached out to people everywhere. There is hardly any place in J&K where I haven't been. Besides, it is Sajjad Gani Lone, not Sajjad Lone. He became People's Conference chairman after the demise of his father. It is like the pot calling the kettle black." Asked there were allegations that the grand alliance was a grand conspiracy of Pakistan, Mehbooba said she was thinking of approaching the court against those who levelled such allegations. "When the PDP is with them (the BJP), it is alright. When Omar sahab (Omar Abdullah) was with them, he was the most nationalistic person in the whole country. And when we want to form the government among ourselves, we are branded Pakistani agents," she said. She said that BJP tried to break other mainstream parties for government formation. "I am not saying Prime Minister did it. But there are few leaders in the BJP who made these efforts, which forced us to get together. In future we will contest the polls and will be decided then whether to make alliance with any party." Calling for immediate rollback of the decision taken by Governor-led state administrative council (SAC) about the JK Bank, she said that attempts were being made to take away the autonomy of institutions that the state enjoyed. "We have opposed the Governor's decision. JK Bank is an asset for the state and its dilution is unjustified. JK people want more empowerment but New Delhi is snatching our assets from us. We also asked the BJP to return at least two power projects to the state," she said. Her reaction came after the SAC approved the proposal for treating the J&K Bank Limited as a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU). The bank has been brought under the purview of the Right to Information (RTI) act, the Chief Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) guidelines and the State Legislature. |
