Locals beat Hurriyat leader in south Kashmir | | | Saahil Suhail Early Times Report Anantnag, Dec 1: In militancy-hit South Kashmir, a self-styled Hurriyat leader was thrashed by locals in Kulgam village. The incident took place on Thursday, reports said. They said Hurriyat Leader Adnan Salfi had arrived at Quimoh Kulgam to offer condolence to Lashkar Militant Ejaj Makroo who was Killed during an encounter with government forces on Monday. They said that after expressing sympathy with the family of the slain militant, the self-styled leader reportedly affiliated with Hurriyat (G) took out a rally and started raising anti-India slogans. While addressing the gathering, he ridiculed a religious leader Sarjan Barkati, who is in jail since 2016 and termed him a 'dancer'. According to reports, he said that only militants and Hurriyat are fighting for Kashmir cause. His comments against Sarjan Barkati agitated people who had assembled to listen him. "Soon he ended his speech. Youth overpowered him and thrashed him ruthlessly," they said. SarJaan Barkati, also known as Azadi Chacha has huge following in south Kashmir. Since 2016, Barkati is in jail for carrying out anti-national rallies in south Kashmir. |
