Security situation in South Kashmir reviewed by Army | | | Since areas in south Kashmir give aches to the security forces because of series of hideouts of militants and their valour to challenge even the Army the security situation in areas in south Kashmir has been reviewed with instructions to the Army to target the real militants instead of civilians. The Army's Northern Command chief Lt Gen Ranbir Singh reviewed the security situation in Kashmir and was briefed about the recent anti-militancy operations in the Valley. The Northern Army Commander arrived in the Kashmir Valley the other day to review the prevailing security situation. Accompanied by Chinar Corps Commander Lt Gen AK Bhatt, the Army commander visited units in south Kashmir and was briefed by commanders on the ground about the current situation and recent counter-terrorist operations. The Army commander complimented troops for their remarkable successes in eliminating militant leadership from south and central Kashmir. Lt Gen Singh also commended them for their dedication to duty and high standards of professionalism and was appreciative of measures and Standard Operating Procedures instituted by units and formations to minimise civilian causalities Ever since the formation of the PDP-BJP coalition Government the situation took a turn indicating that in the areas in south Kashmir, which has a strong vote bank for the PDP, people were not appreciative of late Mufti Sayeed for having forged a coalition Government with the Jammu centric BJP. In fact Mufti Sayeed wanted to end regional discrimination and ensure that Jammu and Kashmir received a lion's share from the central Government which too happened to be ruled by the BJP. But majority of the boys in south Kashmir were averse to the PDP having joined hands with the BJP which meant for the Kashmiri boys the RSS which is being treated as a touch me not flower. Hence the anger against the coalition with the BJP turned into fury from the militants. And most of the boys found recruitment in several militant outfits, especially Hizbul Mujahideen, Lashkar-i-Toiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad. As far as weapons were concerned they were smuggled into Kashmir from across the LoC. This helped the boys in South Kashmir to pose a major channeling for the security forces. And the security forces, especially the Army have been told to intensify military operations against the militants whose number has swelled in south Kashmir. And there is no wonder in case of intensification of military operations against militants, the terrorists may travel to north and central Kashmir areas to avoid getting killed. Once they travelled to the north and the central Kashmir that could extend the bases of terrorists and add to the problems for the security forces. Hence instructions have been given to the security forces to upgrade the security grid and the Army, deployed on the LoC too have been told to foil all ingress bids which could tame terrorists. |
