CUJ charges Rs. 40,000 for Ph.D while JU, KU in few thousands
Looting Jammuites, CUJ becomes most expensive university in state
12/2/2018 11:12:09 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 2: The Jammuites had incessantly struggled hard to get Central University of Jammu but now the same university administration has been looting Jammuties, by imposing highest ever fee structure, which is about many times higher to state universities and several central universities.
The state run Jammu University has been charging few thousands for Ph.D admission while the Punjab Central University has been charging Rs. 4000 for Ph.D admission but CUJ has been charging over Rs. 40,000 for Ph.D admission, despite getting huge central funding.
Moreover, in a new turn of events, a whooping Rs. 1000 per month bus fair charges are also imposed on all the students, who want to avail the facility.
According to the fee structure of state University, the University of Jammu has been charging less than Rs. 5000 for Ph.d course in social sciences, while Kashmir University has been charging Rs. 17350 for Ph.D course in social sciences, Punjab Central University has been charging merely Rs. 4000 for Ph.D course.
The Central University of Kashmir, which has been getting huge funding from Union government has been charging Rs. 31650 for direct Ph.D course but Central University of Jammu has been charging over Rs. 40,000 for Ph.D course in social sciences courses, excluding bus fare of Rs. 1000 per month.
"If bus fare of Rs. 1000 will be included for three years, a Ph.D student will have to pay Rs. 76,000 in three years", a student said, adding that in the fee structure, the CUJ administration has been charging various types of development fees but at the facility level, situation is very grim.
Moreover, in a new turn of events, the CUJ administration has also imposed Rs. 1000 per month as bus travel fair on each student. "Already the admission fee for even M.A courses is also very high, which runs to over Rs. 20,000 and by imposing Rs. 1000 per month, the total fee for MA course will be 44,000 for two years", a student said.
The students further said that a matador charged Rs. 10 each student for one side of travel fare from Jammu to Central University campus. "A student has to visit five times a week in the varsity so s/he has to pay Rs. 100 per week and 400 per month to a matador operator but the University has been charging Rs. 1000 per month, which accounts for Rs. 40 per day, double to the amount charged by a private matador operator", the students rued, adding that what facilities the University has been providing to the students, apart from charging hefty fees?
"The Central University of Jammu has become an old-age home for retired professors of Jammu University, who have become members in the most of the decision making committees, including fee-fixation committee. These Jammu based professors have been devising policies to loot the students of Jammu region by imposing huge fees", the officials said, adding that these professors have been getting fat salaries and were unaware about the plight of poor students.
A JRF qualified student said that he failed to get admission in the CUJ, after he failed to manage over Rs. 40,000 for admission in a Ph.D course. "At one hand CUJ campus is very far from Jammu city with zero facilities and on the other hand the fee structure is very high, depriving many students from getting admission", he said, adding that by imposing huge fee on students, it was impossible to run the university and instead of imposing fee on students, the university administration must take up matter with Union government for funding.
Apart from newly opened Central Universities, the fee structure in old Central Universities is in few thousands and same should be applied in the Central University of Jammu.
