KVK organizes training programme

Reasi, Dec 12: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology -Jammu organized a one day long training programme on "Self Help Groups (SHGs) formation and Women Empowerment" here today at Sub-Division Agriculture Office (SDAO), Reasi. The programme was attended by a large number of Agriculture Extension Officers from Department of Agriculture, Reasi. The programme was organised under the guidance and supervision of Associate Director Extension of SKUAST-J, Dr. R.K. Arora and co-ordinated by Chief Agriculture Officer, Reasi, Sh.Omkar Singh Chaudhary and Sub-Division Agriculture Officer (SDAO), Reasi, Sh.Rajesh Verma. Dr. Banarsi Lal, Scientist &Head of KVK, Reasi initiated the programme with the warm welcome of participants.
Dr. Banarsi also said that SHGs should specify their objectives well in advance. He further said that while making groups homogeneity of the members should always be taken into consideration because homogeneity helps to sustain the group. He emphasized on the credibility among the group members. He also suggested the farmers that after saving the money, the SHGs should be linked with the banks. He stressed on organic vegetables farming among the SHGs to fetch more prices and highlighted the significance on Farmers Producers Organisations (FPOs). Dr. Suja Nabi Qureshi, scientist stressed on value addition of fruits, vegetables and spices. He added that rural women can start micro-entrepreneurships in pickle making, jam making, candle making, soap making, food processing, raincoat making, dairy farming, mushroom cultivation, floriculture etc. in their groups. He said that FPOs can facilitate farmers to sale their produce in an efficient way.
During the programme Subject Matter Specialist Dipak Singh and Sr.Agriculture Officer, Ajit Kumar were also present. The programme was assisted by Manohar Lal and concluded by Dr. Banarsi Lal, Scientist&Head of KVK, Reasi with vote of thanks.
