| Inter-state narco smuggler held with 43 Kg poppy straw | | | Early Times Report
Ramban, Dec 12: In continuation to special drive against the drug smugglers launched by Ramban police, today claimed to have arrested a drug smuggler and recovered 43 Kg poppy straw from his possession.
Police spokesman said that special naka's have been established on NHW especially to check smuggling of drugs, bovine smuggling etc. and today on the directions of SSP Ramban-Anita Sharma, a police party led by SHO Ramban Inspector Vijay Kotwal under supervision of DySP Hqrts Ramban Asgar Malik under close supervision of Adll.SP-Sanjay Parihar established a surprise naka near Shan Palace Ramban on NHW to check the vehicle especially outside state bound vehicles. He further said that most of the times it has been seen that such vehicles plying on NHW are involved in smuggling of drug, as many FIR's has been registered in this district. During checking and Frisking one Punjab bound vehicle(Truck) bearing registration number PB10BM-9501 which was on its way from Kashmir got intercepted. "During thorough search, the vehicle found ladden with apple boxes and recovered filled gunny bags fitted in between the apple boxes containing poppy straw (Bhukki) weighing about 43 Kg from the vehicle, which is the new modus operandi how to smuggle the narcotics", said spokesman. Police identified the suspected person as Mohd Ashraf of Tube Well Colony Malair Kotla , Punjab who has been arrested.
In this regard a case under FIR No. 200/18 under section 8/15 of NDPS Act has registered against the accused person at Ramban and investigation has been geared up to ascertain the source and other persons involved in smuggling of consignment. |
