JAMMU, Dec 16: During ongoing series of weeklong special Tree Talks to mark forthcoming 8th Tree Talk anniversary, 667th Surinsar-Sagoona Tree Talk was today organized at Sagoona Saruinsar forest to acquaint group of Tawi Trekkers & Surinsar school students about Rare ,endangered & threatened trees ,climbers and lianas of Shiwaliks. O P Sharma while sharing inputs on wild crop relatives seen growing in forests underscored the need of going for cultivation of plants for commercial ventures ,need for ex-situ conservation of rare, endangered, threatened plants like Vidarikand, Malkangni, Makadshringi, Medasak, Lal Siris, Varuna, Tinbru, Seyaadu, Tamarix dioica, Neelan, Pittosporum . He emphasized the need to know neighbourhood biodiversity as a pre-requisite for preparation of People's Biodiversity Register as mandated under Indian Biodiversity Act 2002. Director Tourism O P Bhagat, Dr Nagender Singh applauded the concept of outdoor Biodiversity awareness Tree Talks and wished to popularize nature education at tourist destinations, have regular nature treks for students through forests and meadows to know about flora & fauna, wetlands, forests, medicinal plants, mushrooms, wildlife is part of natural heritage and more significant than built heritage as Biodiversity conservation is basic to water, food, health and economic security for local communities. |
