On a day of strike police claims 100 percent attendance in examination for different posts | | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Dec 16: On a day when normal life was affected in Kashmir valley due to shutdown against the civilian killings of Pulwama the Jammu & Kashmir Police claimed 100 percent attendance was witnessed in the examination for posts in Department of Fire & Emergency Services. A police spokesman said that despite bandh call by the separatists in the Kashmir valley 100 percent attendance was recorded in the written examination conducted by Recruitment Board of Jammu & Kashmir Police for different posts in Department of Fire & Emergency Services today. "Director General of Police Shri Dilbagh Singh himself visited the centers at Srinagar and took stock of the arrangements. He interacted with the officers and the staff involved in the written test and the candidates. The test was held in Srinagar, Jammu and Ladakh simultaneously in two shifts," said the spokesman. The spokesman said that in the first shift examination was conducted for Fire man and Fire man driver and in the second shift the examination was held for technical posts. The examination in the first shift started at 11 AM and concluded at 1 PM. In the second shift examination started at 2 PM and ended at 4 PM. "The test was conducted at 10 centres in Srinagar and one each at Jammu and Kargil. Outdoor tests for these posts were held earlier and the results were uploaded on the next day. Out of 5,457 qualified candidates from Kashmir valley, 5421 had downloaded their admit cards which was mandatory for every aspirant to appear in the test," said the spokesman. The spokesman said that 5419 candidates appeared in the first shift at 10 centres established in Srinagar and two candidates appeared at the Jammu centre, thus recording 100 percent attendance, despite bandh call in the valley. In the second shift also there was 100 percent attendance with 184 candidates appearing for technical posts. "In Jammu division 1690 candidates out of 1709 had downloaded their admit cards, who appeared in the first meeting at Government Degree College Parade centre. Similarly in the second meeting 47 candidates out of 50 appeared for technical posts at the centre," said the spokesman. The spokesman said that in Kargil, keeping in view low temperature recorded during the day elaborate arrangements were made at DPL Kargil centre to facilitate the appearing candidates. He said that 38 candidates out of 39 were present at the centre making it almost 100 percent attendance there as well. In the meantime reports reaching here said that life was affected in different parts of Kashmir valley as a mark of protest following killing of seven civilians in Pulwama on Saturday. The casualties took place after clashes broke out between youth and security forces at an encounter site and other places in Pulwama district. Reports said that public transport was off the roads in most parts of the valley with only private traffic running on the roads. Shops and other commercial establishments remaining closed along with the famous Sunday market of Srinagar. Train services were also suspended in the valley with authorities imposing restrictions in Pulwama and some areas of Srinagar. |
