Climate Change- Natural or Man-made?
Mansi Sangra12/20/2018 9:54:12 PM
Climate change is very frequently used almost everywhere as it deeply concerns everyone across the globe. In recent years, there have been discussions, debates, seminars and even common man hold intensive interactions for environment and celebrating some fixed days: World Environment Day, Earth Day or Van Mahotsava to sensitize the entire population the dangers posed by the present alarming climate change. The climate change is happening in the unpredictable weather and strange swings being witnessed for the last more than three decades and in the recent years, disastrous floods and unexpected season or rains.
In most parts of our country and that too in the last week of September! There may be many reasons behind these changes but what about the real factors behind these reasons? Actually it is all about creation of our own making. This horrible picture has been made by human beings to a major extent. Humanity is now harvesting what has been sowed in the past but the intensity of human to exploit the nature started reaching its peak during the last few decades. Well it is not to be mentioned here again and again all about the much used terms like -global warming, deforestation etc. However it has become a fashion to be an environmentalists these days by false marches, fraud campaigns or putting up hoardings and even wearing T-shirts or caps in white with something written as "Go Green" or such other things.
Go Clean &Green
Not generalizing, but mostly it is done to either catch the media attention or to become "another temporary environmentalists". But they are silent again after self-created hue and cry for the cause of climate change. Then they come-up again ready with some new issue for demonstrations and marches but finally without doing "something concrete". Either small or big changes can be brought about only by beginning with firm conviction and action. It can be done through tackling with the basic root cause for environment degradation.
Nature is a very patient observer but reacts in its unique way. Although it reacts after a long time giving time to the human beings to stop their ill- activities that exploit and shatter the nature . But when everything goes beyond tolerance limits, the nature's response is a disastrous one for the so-called development or human greed.
Basic Need
There are some natural calamities in which human is not responsible e.g twisters, cloudburst or earthquakes but it would be wrong to include floods ,lanslides or drought among natural calamities these days . Now really they are "man-made calamities". But the nature is not to be held responsible for its normal ways and its functioning. Nature can never be wrong, nature can never be imbalanced.
We must understand that whether it is melting of glaciers, rising temperature, low or high rainfalls, drying of all water resources especially surface water or floods; we all must take it extremely seriously work on it with a wide and realistic vision and not merely by debates or marches. In order to improve the degrading environ, all nations must frame the realistic policies and draw plans for improving the environment for better days for our coming generations. It may involve amending the laws or behavioural change in the entire society.
Act for Future
Some suggestions for strict laws for arresting further deterioration of the environment are:
Strict laws against deforestation, high panel offences like cutting of trees should be treated as equivalent to killing of a human being. Cutting a tree even for the construction of a road or any other developmental work, must be made mandatory to grow a nursery with ten-times more plants. Strict punishments will set an example for the millions in our country. All the major water bodies like lakes and rivers must be well preserved and remove all encroachments from forests or water bodies.
Some of the environmental effects are also associated with pollution, excess fossil usage, animal methane, effluent waste and global warming. In order to maximize production output, animal farming should be on rational scientific manner. Even excess of killing of animals also disturbs the balance of nature as animals too have, in fact, a crucial role in the ecosystem.
The constant surveillance on the forests, lakes and the rivers, our lifeline, should be stepped-up and guilty persons dealt strictly with rigorous punishment. The industries and factories damaging with chemical or other wastes must be suitably dealt with a iron hand. Similarly, air pollution due to traffic or construction or any other activities must be tackled immediately before it is too long to control this menace. More and more CNG based automobiles should be encouraged .India is a rich in solar energy , which is eco-friendly and economical too, should be fully utilized in our homes ,automobiles and wherever it can be applied. Till now solar energy is used merely in few spheres but it need to be deployed for many other purposes. For reducing pollution, our country like Europe, America and other countries should put all efforts and take its full benefits.
Now or Never
On the use of plastic, polythene, strict laws have to be imposed with a stern and strong hands and the Government must consider even ban on such factories. Their banning is very necessary but ruthlessly imposed throughout the country.
Saving the coastal areas and seas with marine life is also essential for the equilibrium of nature by curbing pollution.
All this needs a large scale co-ordination and concerted efforts of the Government and NGOs and all individuals to curb pollution of all kinds and improve the environments. Everything happening strange in nature has now made us realize that there is something fundamentally wrong with our attitude towards the nature. It is only the human beings who is responsible for this huge climate change. Our scriptures too, speak volume about keeping our environ clean and green and this is a great lesson for all of us. and it is our duty to sustain whatever we are blessed with. Understanding nature and our strong bond with it accompanied by strict laws and moral values will work.
