Jammu, Dec 20: In continuation of its various recent achievements and measures, Jammu Airport has now moved to become single use plastic free premises. Airports Authority of India as an environmentally responsible organisation has started the process of doing away with the single use plastics such as grocery bags, straws, containers, cups, plates and cutlery etc. Sharing the efforts made by AAI, Jammu, D.K. Gautam, Airport Director said that "Over the years, AAI has taken many initiatives towards environment protection and sustainable development. Our objective is to maintain the Jammu airport free of single-use plastic, in line with the PM's vision. Jammu Airport has taken a number of steps including creating awareness among stakeholders enhancing waste management systems and promoting the use of eco-friendly sustainable alternatives progressively. We need to strengthen our resolve therefore, participation of passenger is equally important in this endeavour. Accordingly AAI has displayed appropriate messages at prominent locations in the Terminal building. We should intensify our drive against single use plastics and prohibit bringing plastic that contribute heavily to Environmental pollution." He further stated that AAI, Jammu plans to ensure use of smart and bio-friendly packaging for takeaway food and beverages, use of paper or environmental friendly bags for retail shopping and engaging its key stakeholder in this initiative. AAI Jammu is hopeful that this directive will shift conversations to address the real plastic problem and spark community led actions that cannot be ignored. |
