| Pakal Dul HE Project completes construction of Main Access Tunnel | | | Early Times Report
jammu, Dec 20: Pakal Dul hydroelectric (HE) project (1000 MW) being executed by Chenab Valley Power Projects Limited (CVPPPL) (a Joint venture among NHPC Ltd, JKSPDC Ltd and PTC Ltd) the foundation stone of which was laid by Prime Minister of India on 19.05.2018 has achieved its first contractual milestone by completing the construction of Main Access tunnel (MAT) of Power House having 263 m Length and 8m Dia on 18.12.2018 before schedule.
The power house works of the project which was awarded on 21.02.2018 is in progress and Construction of Adit to Power House (CAP) of 160m length and 7m Dia. has also been completed on 13.12.2018. Road of TBM Adit and approach road to Access tunnel to Valve House has been completed. Work for construction of approach road to Surge Shaft and Construction of Adit to Transformer Hall are in progress. It is also pertinent to mention here that Dam works of the project which was awarded on 21.06.2018 are also under progress. The construction work of approach roads to Diversion Tunnel and Adit to HRT besides Portal works is already taken up.
Pakal Dul is the biggest hydroelectric project under construction in J&K and is also the first storage scheme in J&K. The project is part of Prime Minister's Development Package (PMDP) for J&K and is scheduled to be completed in 5½ years.
The project shall not only meet the increasing energy requirement of State but also provide employment opportunities both direct and indirect to the local population. Construction of the Project will also lead to considerable improvement of the roads and bridges as well as communication system and electric supply system in the region. |
