Pakistan has twin duty to derail peace in Kashmir | | | Pakistan has a twofold responsibility. One is to resort to ceasefire and kill a soldier or two and infiltrate militants into Kashmir to allow them to be killed in encounters. Another responsibility for Pakistan is to knock the doors of the UN while referring to human rights violations and later raise the Kashmir issue and demand that the issue be resolved through the implementation of the UN resolutions. And once again two Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) of the Army were killed in ceasefire violation by Pakistan along the Line of Control in the frontier Kupwara district, the other day. Though strong retaliation by the Indian forces has brought down the number of ceasefire violations and Pakistan has a nose to hide killing of their troops in the strong and furious retaliation by the Indian forces. Had Pakistan been honest about the killing of their troops in the Indian retaliation Islamabad could be exposed and therefore it does not have the right to knock the doors of the UN to raise the issue of human rights violations. While initial indications are that the two were hit by sniper fire, the Army termed it "unprovoked ceasefire violation" by Pakistan, which was retaliated strongly. Sources said the incident took place at Jumagund in the Keran sector around noon, when Pakistan troops targeted an Army post manned by 2/8 Gorkha Rifles some 500 metres inside the LoC. "In the Pakistan firing, Subedar Gamar Bahadur Thapa, 42, was killed on the spot, and Subedar Raman Thapa, 29, critically wounded. He was shifted to the Army Base Hospital in Srinagar, where he succumbed to injuries. The Army launched a massive combing operation in the sector as they suspected the violation by Pakistan might have been aimed at pushing infiltrators from across the border. Had not the Union Home Ministry and the Defence Minister directed their troops to strongly retaliate each and every ceasefire violations by the Pakistani troops, soldiers across the LoC and on the other side of the IB would have resorted to series of ceasefire violations to push groups of militants into Jammu and Kashmir. And these very new infiltrators, who do not have the backing of the people of Kashmir, get caught in encounters where they get sometimes killed and injured. Since these new infiltrators are not able to carve out safe hideouts in south Kashmir they get exposed and are easy targets for the security forces during their combing operations. And if Pakistan raises the issue of human rights violations Islamabad is itself responsible for these violations. |
