Four Jaish militants killed in encounter at Hanjan-Pulwama | | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Dec 29: Four militants owing allegiance to banned militant outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad were killed in a gunfight with police and security forces in the Hanjan village of South Kashmir's Pulwama district today. While three of the slain militants belonged to the Pulwama district the fourth one was identified as a foreigner. Some arms and ammunition were recovered from possession of slain militants while as clashes broke out after the encounter. Some civilians sustained injuries with some reports saying that one among the injured succumbing to his injuries at a city hospital. Reports said the gunfight broke out early morning following a cordon and search operation launched jointly by police and security forces. As the forces approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants opened fire, triggering a gunfight. The encounter ended with the death of four militants. The joint team consisted of army's 44RR, 182, 183 CRPF and SOG of Jammu & Kashmir Police. The slain militants were identified as Muzamil Nabi Dar of Rohmoo-Pulwama, Muzamil Nazir Bhat of Prichoo-Pulwama, Waseem Akram Wani of Tikken-Pulwama and a non-local Haris. Security officials said that slain militants were involved in different militancy related incidents in Pulwama and other districts of Kashmir. They said that many First Information Reports (FIRs) stand registered against the militants killed in today's encounter. The security officials claimed that they have achieved a huge success with the killing of four militants today. They have asked the people to cooperate with them in anti-militancy operations. A police spokesman said that based on a credible input about the presence of militants in the Hanjan Payeen area of Pulwama district, a cordon and search operation was launched early in the morning today by police and security forces in the area. "As the searches were going on, the search party was fired upon by the militants. The fire was retaliated leading to a gunfight. In the ensuing encounter four militants were killed and their bodies were recovered from the site of encounter," said the spokesman. The spokesman said that a case has been registered and investigations have been launched into the case. He said that incriminating material including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. Reports said that intense clashes erupted between the protesters and the security forces near the site of the gunfight. Residents, especially youth, came out of their houses and pelted the forces with stones as soon as the news of gunfight spread in the area. They said the forces responded by firing tear gas at the protesters. A report said that a civilian has succumbed to his injuries but the same is yet to be confirmed. |
