Pages of Proud and Pains in 2018 | (Bye 2018 - Welcome 2019) | Mahadeep Singh Jamwal | 12/30/2018 8:59:31 PM |
| The 12 o'clock at night, December 31, 2018, will advance us to New Year 2019, wishing us all the best, with wrap up of synchronized events inked on the pages of the year 2018. Very few pages scripted and printed with events of proud moments, few with criticism of the functioning of Constitutional authorities, some with unhappy anecdote in political chapters, and rest with horrendous moments of pain bleeding the J&K. Every time when we will tear a leaf off a calendar of 2018, it will present a new aspect of happenings, some graceful, some distorted and some sorrowful. The change over on bewitching hour of 31 December 2017, to 1st January 2018 was under the shadow of a grenade attack and blood bath that left five CRPF troopers dead and neutralizing of three militants. The advancement of the month bloomed with the approval of Asia's longest bi-directional Zojila Pass, a long undecided hopes of all weather connectivity between Srinagar-Kargil-Leh. The safety of people living alongside LoC also received attention of the union, with the sanctioning of 14000 bunkers. In the January itself cascaded another flash, from private house 'Gulshan Books' a Kashmiri publishing house, located at J&K's tourist attraction site, Nehru Park on Dal Lake, when it secured a place in Limca Book of records 2018, for huge collection of 80,000 books. The June 2018, reverberated for creating a World record for distributing 2330 number of 'Bee-Boxes' by Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) in one day and the event was witnessed in Xangalee area of North Kashmir's Kupwara. The proud occasion also disembarked for feminine in the state, when all woman J&K Bank branch was inaugurated at Sher-I-Kashmir International Convention Centre in Srinagar in July and J&K Judicial history honored Justice Gita Mittal as ever first woman Chief Justice of J&K High Court in August 2018. The J&K state gleamed on the horizon in space research, when in September; Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) signed a MoU with the Central University of Jammu (CUJ) to set up 'Satish Dhawan Centre for space science', a space applications Centre in the University campus. The centre will help facilities for: Geospatial data analysis that will help in sustainable use of natural resources and planning land use patterns, ground based observations for atmospheric studies, research lab for astrophysics, atmospheric senses and glacier studies lab for better use of large quantity of water stored in the form of seasonal snow, ice and glaciers in the rivers of North India. 2018 will keep the hilarity folio on its memory about the Kashmir concert-Ehsaas-e-Kashmir, performed by Maestro Zubin Mehta, international icon of classical music in Shalimar Bagh, Mughal Gardens in Srinagar hosted by the German Embassy New Delhi in October 2018. Few pages of the year 2018, will remind us of the humiliation, the Constitution faced at the hands of those pledging to maintain its sanctity. We witnessed the allegations of impartiality against speaker from BJP that created crises in state assembly. The assembly also witnessed Pro-Pakistan sloganeering by a lawmaker from National Conference and Speaker behaved like a tombstone. The political stability during the year remained rolling. The ever in criticism the coalition of BJP and PDP, ended on a sad note and blaming PDP of its failure in its responsibility (but in actuality BJP was feeling heat of its alienation from the Jammu for its zero performance), BJP withdraw support (to save its face) on 19 June 2018 that was followed by Governor's Rule with fate of assembly in suspended animation. A high voltage theatrics by PDP and simultaneously by Sajjad Lone claiming formation of government (with support of BJP) was lacerated by the Governor by dissolving the state assembly on 22 June 2018. The dissolution of assembly attracted critique from different platters ranging from appreciation to that of murder of democracy. The chapter that will be penned and printed in golden in the album of 2018 will be the conduction of ULB and Panchayat elections across the state by the administration under Governor Rule to usher in the era of third layer of democracy after gap of considerable period. In the year the state assembly of Jammu and Kashmir under Governor Rule passed law to ban sexual extortion of woman in offices and became the first state in the country to amend the law. The uncommon feature of 2018 related to the landscape of Jammu that deserve mention here is reverberation of new evolutions and all for the alleged cause of discrimination towards Jammu and Dogras in particular, adding to already existing and propagating on the same lines and it reminds me of the frogs on the corners of a seasonal pond that make noises by protruding their ears just to register their presence and nothing more than that. When we express of the troublesome phenomenon all along 2018, it admonish us of militant management, Jaish-e-Mohammed, Hizbul Mujahideen, Lashkar-e-Taiba, Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen, Islamic State Jammu & Kashmir (ISJK) and Al-Badar pledged for bleeding J&K. These organizations in their coordinated attacks killed approximately 43 security personnel and 242 militants having affiliation with above referred militant organizations, were also eliminated by security forces. More than four hundred civilians have lost their lives in violence during the outgoing year. Stabilizing of J&K remained a key challenge in 2018 also that is continuing since 1947. 'Rasana rape cum murder' in Kathua, vibrated across the boundaries and even attracted the scrutiny of United Nations and the Human Rights Watch. At home ground the issue brought down two BJP ministers who have to resign from the ministry. The murder of BJP leader and his brother, a felony, in Kishtwar, on 1st November 2018, imagined to be accomplished by militants is a sealed mystery and its unfolding, we wish to be at the earliest in 2019. En route concluding of the year, on 24 December, Trikuta Hills got connectivity by way of inauguration of Vishnoo Devi Bhawan-Bhairon temple passenger ropeway and the Anti-Corruption Bureau Jammu succeeded in apprehending ever such a big catch, Deputy Excise Commissioner (Executive), while accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh for clearing the file of renewal of a wine shop licence. Concluding we can down the curtain on the J&K calendar of 2018, with a specific note that the muscle policy pushed by the Modi government in valley failed to impact the militancy, much politicized 'surgical strikes' failed to curtail the actions from across the borders, much talked 'Demonetization' to curb the flow of funds from across the border boosting the 'stone pelters' failed miserably, its much show off of the GST is under criticism in J&K and held responsible to effect the economy, industry and tourism sector in particular in the state. The special envoy as interlocutor Mr. Dineshwar Mishra, after strolling on the flush gardens of the valley went into hibernation and the space for BJP shrinked in Jammu region owing to their own doings that is being occupied by other tested horses with their own formulae for the solution of the J&K problem. We can help write that story of 2018 by setting goals in 2019 for bringing an atmosphere of peace and tranquility in the state that at present has a position like that of 'Daropadi' in 'Pandavas' family in the hands of India, Pakistan, state government, militants, regional political parties as well as the shadow of forces operating in this state. Let's take the time to keep away the snapshots and forget, what the year 2018 has given us and let us go ahead & welcome 2019 that may explore new opportunities and we will get exceptional reward. Wish the year 2019 brings the warmth of love and illuminates our path of life towards a positive direction. Happy New Year! |
