Militants run away with four rifles from residence of former MLC at Jawahar Nagar | Cops detained for questioning, red alert sounded across Kashmir | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Dec 30: Authorities sounded red alert across the Srinagar district and other parts of Kashmir after four rifles went missing from the official residence of a former legislator at Jawahar Nagar area in the afternoon today. Reports said that four rifles of the police personnel posted at the official residence of former Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Mohammad Muzaffar Parray went missing after some militants managed to enter the house and decamp with the rifles of the policemen. Sources told Early Times that at around 3 PM couple of persons managed to enter the J-37 official residence of Parray at Jawahar Nagar. The persons managed to leave the residence after some time along with the four rifles of the police personnel posted there for the security of Parray and his family. "The militants masquerading to be officials of Power Development Department (PDD) managed to enter the residence of Parray. While one among them was carrying a pistol the other one was carrying a knife. They took hostage the four police personnel present there and managed their entry into the guard room," said sources. Sources said that militants after entering the guard room took away the four AK-47 automatic rifles and ran away. They kept the police personnel in one of the rooms as hostages and decamped with the rifles. Parray as well as his family members were not present in the house at the time the incident took place. Jawahar Nagar is considered to be one of the posh areas of the Srinagar district and houses of many former legislators are located in this area. The area is a calm area and the militants while taking advantage of calmness managed to run away without any difficulty whatsoever. It was only after hue and cry raised by the police personnel that the locals came to know about the incident. Following the same information was passed on to the Rajbagh police station which registered a case and started investigations in the matter. "All the four policemen, three from security wing and another from District Police Sopore attached with the former legislator have been summoned for questioning. It is expected that sustained questioning may help the police to crack the case and identify the people behind the incident," said sources. Following the incident a red alert was sounded across Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir valley. Nakas have been set up at different places in order to nab the militants responsible for the incident. At the same time security has been beefed up in the Kashmir valley. It would be in place to mention here that in September this year an SPO hailing from Zainpora, Shopian, stole seven AK rifles and a pistol from the residence of former PDP legislator Aijaz Ahmad Mir in the same area. |
