Power workers protest, seek dues | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 2: Hundreds of daily earners and casual labourers working in the power development department today staged a protest' outside the office of the chief engineer against the alleged failure of the state administration in releasing their salaries. The protest was held under the banner of the J&K PDD Need-Based and Casual Labourer Workers' Union to draw the attention of the department towards the plight of workers who were without salaries for two to four years. The workers are protesting since last week but no action has been taken by the administration to address their grievances. They are seeking regular salaries and a policy for workers who get injured or die while carrying repairs of infrastructure. Union president Akhil Sharma said nearly 3,000 casual workers were waiting for wages and despite promises made by the previous PDP-BJP government, they were yet to get their due. |
