85 percent posts of APs, 72 percent of Professors lying vacant | Shortage of faculty hits research programs in CU | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 2: The acute shortage of teaching faculty in both the Central Universities of J&K, is adversly affecting the studies of thousands of post graduates students and research scholars, enrolled under different programmes. As per latest data compiled by Ministry of Human Resource Development (MoHRD) over teaching positions as on April, 2018, Central University of Jammu (CUJ) and Central University of Kashmir (CUK) were under acute shortage of manpower as 72 percent posts of Professors and 85 percent posts of Associate Professors were not filled since they were established in J&K. As per the data, in CUJ there are 22 sanctioned posts of professors but only three are filled and remaining 19 are lying vacant. Similarly, 35 post of Associate professors against the sanctioned strength of 44 are vacant whereas seven posts of Assistant Professors (APs) are also lying vacant. "In Central University of Kashmir (CUK), against 21 posts of professors, only nine posts are filled. Subsequently 37 posts of Associate Professor are also lying vacant against 41 posts whereas 29 posts of Assistant Professors out of 90 aren't filled so far since its establishments", the data reveals. Reliable sources in CUJ informed Early Times that after establishment, both the varsities had announced various research programmes with fanfare but due to shortage of faculty especially Professors and Associates professors the research programmes were hit severely. |
