VCT urges upon Guv for cataract surgeries at all SDHs | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 7: Viklang Chhatra Trust has urged upon the state government to make provision of Cataract Surgeries in all Sub District Hospitals and appoint Eye Surgeons in these health institutions to extend the facility of cataract surgery to thousands of economically weak cataract patients who can't spent thousands to get their vision restored . In a letter to the Governor Satya Pal Malik, the trust said that cataract is the major cause of blindness in rural and remote areas where no surgical facilities for 75% population is available for the remedial surgery of this curable disease . If timely surgery is avoided or delayed, an eye with cataract goes blind for ever, it said. The Trust further submitted that in the light of a ruling of the Supreme Court, it is mandatory for the health institutions to have separate operations theatres exclusively for eye surgeries . Most of the Sub District Hospitals of Jammu Division don't have this facility. Even some District Hospitals san this facility. NGOs engaged in the mass ophthalmology on voluntary basis are also unable to organise free cataract camps. The Trust made a fervent appeal to the Governor to make provision of Cataract Surgeries in all Sub District Hospitals and appoint Eye Surgeons to restore the visions of thousands of cataract patients. |
