Shah Faesal resigns, likely to join NC | In politics, there are no permanent foes, friends | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Jan 9: It is an old adage that there are no permanent friends and foes in politics and bureaucracy till it suits the players. This was seen on Wednesday when IAS topper resigned and is likely to join the National Conference. Shah Faesal, a Kashmiri IAS officer who topped the 2010 exam, has quit the civil services and is likely to join politics. He was once considered close to the PDP and would even attend the party meeting. As the PDP position seems weakening in Kashmir, he is likely to join the National Conference and may be NC's probable candidate of north Kashmir in Lok Sabha elections. A tweet from National Conference chief Omar Abdullah reinforced speculation. "The bureaucracy's loss is politics' gain. Welcome to the fold Shah Faesal," the former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister wrote. In 2016, the National Conference has sought action against him for attending political meetings. In 2016, the NC said that party had taken a very serious note of the Director Education, Shah Faesal's participation in a PDP political meeting at Gupkar recently. He was then Director School Education Kashmir. The spokesperson had said that party would register a formal complaint, seeking prompt action against the participation of government officers in political events. "If the PDP has to interact with businessmen and entrepreneurs and advocate the party's ideology and vision, why should the Director Education be present? This not only falls in the realm of impropriety but also calls into question his neutrality and objectivity in discharging his professional duties," the NC spokesperson had said. "Naeem Akhtar is not the Education Minister anymore and Mehbooba Mufti hasn't taken over as the Chief Minister - not at least for now and Shah Faesal is not obliged to attend such political meetings. That this participation happened on a work-day, in working hours is a greater disappointment as it indicates misplaced priorities of a public servant. To ensure this trend is nipped in the bud, National Conference General Secretary will be formally writing to the Honourable Governor Shri N. N. Vohra," the spokesperson had said days before Mehbooba took over JK CM. The NC has criticised him several times in the past and sought action against him. The state administration department had earlier served a notice to the 2010 Indian Administrative Service exam topper Shah Faesal after the Department of Personnel and Trainings (DoPT) asked the state to initiate action against Faesalwho is presently in the US pursuing a post graduate course at the Harvard University. However, Omar had criticised Centre's action against 2009 IAS topper Shah Faesaland said that questioning him for a tweet against rape was "shocking". "Shah Faesal had said it in accordance to the current situation and he raised voice against rapes. He served Jammu and Kashmir for years together now and nobody questioned his honesty and integrity. But to question now his integrity and honesty is unjustified," he had said. "Why no enquiry against the minister who garlanded people involved in killing of a person? Further if no action is taken against the people in various states where communal tension is being spread through rumors on WhatsApp and twitter," he had said. |
