Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 13: Discrimination with the people of Jammu province continues unabated. The rise of the BJP to power at the Centre in 2014 has in no way helped the people of Jammu province. They were discriminated against by the successive governments at the Centre between 1947 and 2014 and they didn't get a fair deal even during the BJP regime, which is nearing its end. This, despite the fact that the people of Jammu voted overwhelmingly for the BJP in the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in 2014.
The claim of the BJP that Jammu got its due share at all levels and in all spheres during the BJP regime is as hollow as it is intriguing. The fact of the matter is that the plight of the people of Jammu became more miserable during the BJP's regime and that it, like the Congress, has only discriminated against Jammu and pampered Kashmir.
The latest example is the money sanctioned for the two All India Institute of Medical Sciences -- one each for Jammu province and Kashmir. The other day, the Union Cabinet approved a proposal for three new AIIMS, two in Jammu and one in Gujarat. Announcing the decision, Union Health Minister JP Nadda said that the Union Cabinet set apart Rs 1,828 crore for the Kashmir's AIIMS to be established in Pulwama and Rs 1,661 crore for the Jammu's AIIMS to be set up at Vijaypur in Samba district.
In other words, the Union Cabinet sanctioned Rs 167 crore less for the Jammu's sanctioned AIIMS. The differential treatment accorded to Kashmir has irked the people of Jammu.
Why more funds for the Kashmir's AIIMS and less funds for the Jammu's AIIMS? It is for the BJP to tell the discriminated against people of Jammu province as to why it sanctioned RS 167 crore less for the Jammu's AIIMS. How will the BJP justify this glaring example of discrimination with the people of Jammu province?
