CUJ hosts VCs' meet on "Academic Leadership Training in Higher Education" | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 12: The School of Educational Studies, Central University of Jammu (CUJ), is hosting the Vice Chancellors' Meet under the title "Academic Leadership Training in Higher Education". The event is being organized under the aegis of Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya National Mission on Teachers & Teaching (PMMMNMTT) in collaboration with Association of Indian Universities (AIU). This four-day long programme (12th-15th February, 2019) shall witness deliberations on various issues pertaining to higher education. Dr Dharmendra Singh, Head Department of Educational Studies made a formal welcome to the guests, vice chancellors, and the eminent academicians, who graced the event from various universities. The leitmotif of this event is a thorough discussion on enhancing the quality of higher education and addressing its challenges. Prof Furqan Qamar, Secretary General AIU, delivered the key note address and impressed upon the audience about the crying need of ensuring quality in higher education. The speaker underlined the issues of excellence in higher education and the current state of affairs of such institutes of higher learning. Prof B S Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu, enlightened the luminaries in the workshop on "decision-making as a process". He was vociferous about institutes being breeding ground of knowledge. However, he was clear about the "quality of students" and "quality of faculty" as determining factors for ensuring quality of education as a whole. K K Sharma, Advisor to Governor, dwelt upon the need of training for leaders who are already at the zenith of their career. He stressed on "identifying deficiencies", "developing skills for negotiations", "making strategy and year-wise strategic plans", and "monitoring" as key factors for addressing leadership crisis. Prof Ashok Aima, Vice-chancellor, CUJ, emphasized on developing leadership qualities. He also gave an account of how CUJ is marching towards excellence in education. Prof. Aima was vocal about "leadership not being a power-centric argument" rather it should be "dynamic and decentralized". |
