Divisional status to Ladakh | View from outside J&K | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 12: It was on February 8 that the Ladakh was granted divisional status much against the wishes of Kashmiri leaders of all hues. Ever since then, the people across India have been expressing their views on this political development of great import. Significantly, the development has evoked a very positive response not only from Jammu and Leh, but across the country. All, without any exception, have appreciated the development and hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying better late than never and that the PM has initiated the process of trifurcation or quadrification of J&K State. "Better late than never. PM Modi initiated the process of trifurcation or quadrification of JK State. Hope Ladakh will become a UT sooner than later thus after 70 years doing justice to the province dominated by Buddhists. Sooner or later Laddakh and Jammu too will have a say in the national politics too," this is the general view across the nation. Some have said: "Kashmir, the northern Himalayan region of the Indian sub-continent got its name from Kashyapa Rishi or 'lake of the sage Kashyapa, or it is known also as 'Kashyapa Meru' or the sacred mountains of Kashyapa," and have added that the demand for the creation of the non-existent Chenab Valley and Pir Panjal are flawed and communally-motivated. "Let three families of Nehru-Gandhi's, Abdullah and Mufti cry and shout on Feb 8th 2019 historic decision. These families may speak on Pir Panjal and Chenab without understanding Geo-morphological structures/features and Geography. Pir Panchal is a mountain range and Chenab is the name of a river and the waters of the Chenab were allocated to Pakistan under the terms of the Indus Waters Treaty. The river is formed by the confluence of two rivers, Chandra and Bhaga, at Tandi, 8 km southwest of Kyelang, in the Lahaul and Spiti district in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. The Bhaga River originates from Surya taal lake, which is situated a few kilometers east of the Bara-lacha la pass in the in Himachal Pradesh. The Chandra River originates from glaciers east of the same pass. The Chenab River was called Asikni (dark-coloured waters) in the Rigveda". All this indicates that the people across the country are fully aware of the geography and demography of the State, called Jammu & Kashmir State, and the problems being faced by people inhabiting different regions of the state - Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh and this augurs well for the state and the country in the sense that misinformation campaign about Jammu & Kashmir has hurt the nation in the state. |
