| Congress leader stresses for women education | | |  Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 12: Emphasizing on the need of provide better opportunities to girls to get quality education, former minister and Congress leader Sham Lal Sharma today said that true women empowerment can really be achieved when girl child is given her due importance and care as girls of today will be the women of tomorrow.
Addressing annual day function of K. Universal High School Sharma said that over all development of society is possible only by providing better education and health facilities to women.
"Education also helps to put a stop to discrimination based on gender. Education is the first step to give women the power to choose the way of life she wants to lead", he said, adding " Education helps women to be more productive in her work. A knowledgeable woman has the skills, information, talent, and self-confidence that she requires to be a superior mother, employee, and resident".
Sham said the role of education is extremely important in empowerment and it goes a long way in empowering women and the process of education has to begin early in life. "More and more girls need to be sent to school and provided quality and holistic education.
" Women constitute almost half the population of our country. Men and Women are like two sides of the coin and need identical opportunity to contribute to the country's development. One cannot survive without the other"., he said while emphasizing on educating females.
Earlier, the programme commenced with the traditional lighting of lamp by the Chief Guest and the distinguished members of management. The Principal of School welcomed the Chief Guest and the distinguished guests.
Later, Sham Sharma along with Principal distributed prizes among the students excelling in academic as well as extracurricular activities.
