25th meeting of Governing Council for SMVD Gurukul held

KATRA, Feb 20: The 25th meeting of the Governing Council (GC) for Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Gurukul, Charan Paduka, Katra, was held at the Spiritual Growth Centre here today in which a number of important decisions were taken for the future growth of this institution as a centre of excellence.
Dr. Ashok Bhan, Member of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, chaired the meeting, which was attended by Simrandeep Singh, Chief Executive Officer, Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board; Vivek Verma, Additional CEO; Prof. Yugal Kishore Mishra; Prof. Vishwamurti Shastri; Dr. Arvind Karwani, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Shrine Board and Administrator of Gurukul; Gopal Dass Sharma, Head Pujari, Bhawan; and Dr. Devendra Rijal, Vice Principal of the Gurukul.
Dr. Bhan and other Members of the Governing Council expressed satisfaction at the functioning of the Gurukul and emphasised the need for making continuing endeavours to develop it as a centre of excellence. The meeting also noted the outstanding achievements of the students of the Gurukul in academics and co-curricular activities every year besides at the various state and national level competitions.
In this context, the Governing Council congratulated five students of this Gurukul who won medals in their respective events in the Akhil Bhartiya Shastriya Sparda held recently at the Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, Ekalavya Campus, Agartala, Tripura. They are Master Gotam Sharma, Master Ankit Sharma, Master Udhit Narayan Jasyal, Master Shubam Sharma and Master Anish Sharma.
The Governing Council also congratulated Master Madhav Sharma, a student of the Gurukul who stood 1st in the Class 8th Annual Examination conducted by the Sampurnanand Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya, Varanasi in the session 2017-18 for which he was awarded Gold Medal by this varsity with which the Gurukul is affiliated. It may be recalled that the students of the Gurukul have been winning Gold Medals in Class 8th Annual Examination every year since 2012.
The Vice Principal of Gurukul apprised that presently 162 students are studying from class 6th to Shastri Class Part-II in this fully residential institution which was established by the Shrine Board in 2010. Education, boarding, lodging, books, uniforms etc. are being provided to the students by the Shrine Board totally free of cost. The Board has also made elaborate arrangements for indoor and outdoor games at the Gurukul, besides organising debating competitions and other extra-curricular activities for overall personality development of the students.
