Jammu, Feb 26 : ERA organized a workshop on Multi Hazard Risk Assessment for Jammu and Kashmir at Radisson Blu Hotel in Jammu today. The workshop was held as part of Capacity Building and training of agencies responsible for Disaster Management under the ongoing Jehlum Tawi Flood Recovery Project funded by the World Bank. The Government of Jammu and Kashmir, with the technical and financial support of World Bank, formulated the JTFRP for reconstruction and future flood mitigation activities after the September 2014 floods. CEO ERA/JTFRP Dr. Raghav Langer in his key note address said that the objective of Jhelum Tawi Flood Recovery Project is to support the recovery and increase disaster resilience in targeted areas of the state, and increase the capacity of the State entities to respond promptly and effectively to an eligible crisis or emergency. He added that this is the first World Bank sponsored project in the State of Jammu and Kashmir. The key experts from RMSI consultants Dr. Muralikrisha M and Dr. Murari Lal engaged by JTFRP highlighted the importance of Multi Hazard Risk Assessment for J&K, which also includes review of Flood and Earthquake Hazard Studies, Climate Change Impact on Hydro Met Hazard and Food Security. The workshop was attended by Professor S.K. Pandita, Director Distaster Management University of Jammu, Prof. G.M. Bhat, Geology Department University of Jammu, Aamir Ali Director Distaster Management JTFRP, M.S. Babu, MD, CVPPPL and Satinder Singh Rana, Director ERA, Jammu, and Iftikhar Ahmad Kakroo, Director Technical, JTFRP. The workshop was also attended by representative of different line departments and including PWD, PHE, I&FC, Department of Remote Sensing, Town Planning, Geology Mining, Industries & Commerce etc. |
