Third Front trying to rope in disgruntled PDP leaders

SRINAGAR, Feb 26: Ahead of Assembly and Parliamentary elections, the Third Front leaders are trying to rope in some disgruntled members of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and to forge the pre-poll alliance ahead of the upcoming elections.
While as sources said the Congress, which was routed in the last Parliamentary polls has been trying to persuade the Third Front leaders to forge pre-poll alliance with them for the Assembly polls, PDP had recently suspended some party leaders who had revolted against the party.
"Yes some disgruntled leaders including a former minister have been holding meetings with the Third Front leaders and are likely to join us to contest upcoming elections together. Some PDP leaders are also in touch with Front leaders. We won't make it public till the final decision is taken over it," a senior leader, who is part of the Third Front said.
He said Ghulam Hassan Mir has been holding deliberations with the Third Front leaders about the viable option to contest upcoming polls together. Mir, who was the minister in the Omar Abdullah led Cabinet is considered a close ally of Congress.
Third Front leaders have been holding meetings these days and discussing the strategy for the coming polls. Among the prominent who have formed Third Front leaders are Hakim Yaseen, M Y Tarigami, and Ghulam Hassan Mir. Third Front comprises of PDF, CPI (M) JKNDF, SP, CPI.
A leader said their doors are open for anybody to join the Third Front. Political parties have suggested holding simultaneous polls for parliamentary and state assembly. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has sought a report from the Jammu and Kashmir government about security situation in the state before taking a final call for the elections.
An official said that Chief Electoral Officer has told the political parties that his office has already taken necessary steps for holding the elections, but decision lies with the ECI.
