Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 26: Despite exemplary performance in terms of eliminating militants in south Kashmir during his stay as district SP for two terms comprising around 10 months the proposed posting of Shailendra Kumar Mishra as SSP Kulgam, during recent reshuffle in Police administration was sabotaged from within the political circles. According to locals, Shilendra during his stay in Shopian in 2016 won peoples' trust for Police. "Despite rise in militancy in south Kashmir, he was considered as the best officer, as in Shopian district he established a powerful team of police men, who eliminated notorious militants including Dr Rafiq Bhat, Saddam Pader, Bilal Molvi, Touseef", said a Police officer, wishing not to be named. The officer further said that people of Shopian wanted him to serve in the district. "During public meetings he shared his personal mobile number with public, and on several occasion, public sought help from him", he said referring to an incident, in which an ASI from Shopian Police Station, was placed under suspension for harassing a septuagenarian. "He received call a from the old woman, who informed the SP that a police officer was harassing her", the officer said and added that he rushed to the Police Station and placed the officer under suspension. He said that for second term, he could not serve the district beyond three months due to political pressure. "He was transferred just after three months, even the people met and pressurized local MLAs to get back him, but it could not happen again", he said and added that his name was proposed for the post of SSP Pulwama, but on last moment his name was dropped. It has been learnt that some leaders could not digest his popularity among the masses, and tried their best to prevent his posting in south Kashmir. He further said that militants selectively targeted Mishra's team in Shopian. "They abducted Javed Dar a PSO posted with Mishra who had participated in many operations with him, and killed him. It also created fear among other members of his team in Shopian", he added. "Some politicians who want to keep up the turmoil in south Kashmir, are preventing his posting", he added. |
