BJP confused over simultaneous Assembly, Parliamentary elections in J&K | | |
Early Times Report jammu, Mar 5: While as all main-stream parties of J&K are unanimous on holding Lok Sabha and Assembly elections simultaneously, BJP is confused on this issue. Instead of taking a clear stand, BJP has taken ambiguous stand and tried to create confusion among visiting team of the Election Commission of India (ECI). Within days after dissolution of the Legislative Assembly by Governor Satya Pal Malik on November 21, 2018, BJP leadership is in a dilemma on the issue of supporting assembly and parliamentary election at same time. On February 12, BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav had also given confusing statement on timing of the assembly elections. "There are 'chances' of assembly elections in J&K along with Lok Sabha polls", Madhav said but within minutes he had stated, "assembly elections in J&K may be held after or before Lok Sabha polls". A group within state unit is trying its best to evolve consensus among senior leaders to get the assembly elections deferred after Lok Sabha polls. Fearing that failure of the former ministers in the previous PDP-BJP government to address peoples' problems would have direct impact on Lok Sabha elections so a faction is against holding simultaneous polls. According to official handout of the party, On behalf of J&K BJP, Former Dy. CM Kavinder Gupta, BJP State General Secretary Dr. Narinder Singh, State Secretary & Councillor Rajinder Sharma, met with the Election Commission of India (ECI) to present the party's view on the upcoming elections of Parliament as well as Assembly elections in the state. Kavinder Gupta, while presenting his views in the meeting, said that the elections in the state should be held as early as possible. Dr. Narinder Singh, while presenting his views in the meeting, emphasized on the phase wise elections for the smooth conduct. |
