Jammu, Mar 9: Early Times' journalist Avinash Azad won the 24th National Media Awards 2019 by the National Foundation for India (NFI) New Delhi. Avinash was among 12 journalists and an Indian Council of Social Science Research Doctoral fellow from across India selected for the prestigious award. It was great moment for entire Early Times group as for second consecutive year our journalist bagged this prestigious award, last year Akshay Azad was had bagged 23rd National Media Awards. The NFI on March 7 hosted an awards ceremony at the India Habitat Centre, in New Delhi. Founded by some of India's most eminent personalities including Ratan Tata, Dr. MS Swaminathan, C Subramanium and Kamla Chudhury, the NFI is an independent grant-making organisation with a core mandate for social transformation and to encourage philanthropy in India. The NFI National Media Award 2019 recipients are Amaninder Pal (The Tribune), Avinash Azad (Early Times), Kelly Kislaya (The Pioneer), Rachna Priyadarshini (Prabhat Khabar), Nileena Atholi (Mathrubhumi), Al Ngullie (Eastern Mirror); freelancers Makepeace Sitlhou, Umesh Kumar Ray and Asghar Khan, Prem Vijay Patil (Nayi Duniya), Bhartesh Singh Thakur (The Tribune), Neha Sharma (Times of India) and doctoral fellow Afaque Haider. An art and photojournalism exhibition was held. Chairperson of the NFI, Syeda Hameed, inaugurated the exhibition after which the awards ceremony was conducted at Jacaranda Hall. On March 8, there were interactive sessions between the NFI National awardees and some of India's leading journalists including Huffington Post India's Editor in Chief Aman Sethi, Frontline's senior journalist TK Rajlakshmi, who is also the president of the Indian Women's Press Corps; Managing Director of Down to Earth's Richard Mahapatra; and senior financial journalist John S Raja. Further, the awardees will also be interacting with other leading Indian journalists on March 9 in New Delhi, including Ambika Pandit, deputy editor of Times of India; Press Institute of India's Deputy Director Usha Rai, and Rajiv Tikoo of the Indian Express, United Nations Millennium Campaign, and India Today Group fame. The NFI has supported more than 200 grassroot organisations in 14 states, and more than 400 individual change makers in the areas of development journalism and community leaderships. |
