'PDP blocked Agency's move to act against Pak stooges in 2017'
NIA hits nail on its head, summons Mirwaiz, Geelani's son
3/9/2019 11:26:27 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 9: National Investigating Agency has hit the nail on its head by summoning the Hurriyat dove Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to New Delhi for questioning in terror funding case.
The Mirwaiz has been asked to present himself at the NIA office in New Delhi on Monday.
"Whereas, it appears that you are acquainted with the circumstances of the case noted below, which is now under investigation by the NIA, New Delhi, you are hereby required to report before the undersigned at National Investigation Agency, Ministry of Home Affairs, Opposite CGO complex Lodhi Road, new Delhi on 11-02-2019 at 10:30 am for the purpose of your examination relating to the case," said a notice, issued to the Mirwaiz by the NIA.
The notice comes barely 11 days after an NIA raid at the residence of Mirwaiz in Nigeen area of Srinagar.
The NIA has also summoned Syed Naseem Geelani, son of Syed Ali Shah Geelani, chairman of his faction of Hurriyat Conference.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Hurriyat dove Mirwaiz Umar Farooq are known faces, who during the past three decades have been advocating the cause of Pakistan in Kashmir. They have been instrumental in calling strikes in the Valley and orchestrating the street protests."
The analyst claimed that NIA wanted to act against Mirwaiz and Geelani in 2017 itself but the then PDP led government in Jammu and Kashmir blocked the move. "Mirwaiz pretends to be a moderate leader but the fact is that he too is a Pakistani stooge and has been enjoying the patronage of his bosses sitting across the Line of Control (LoC), NIA probe can easily reveal the sources through which Mirwaiz was getting funded to keep the pot boiling in Kashmir," the analyst added.
A politician said, "It's a known fact that people like Mirwaiz and others are the frontline trouble mongers. Even after Hurriyat getting fragmented into Hurriyat (M) and Hurriyat (G) and using different platforms for many years, Geelani, Mirwaiz and Yaseen Malik came together and formed Joint Resistance Leadership on the directions of their bosses sitting across the LoC."
He said, "Had the GoI acted against Geelani, Mirwaiz and Malik in 2017 situation in Kashmir would have been different by now. Had they been put behind the bars in 2017 itself people of Kashmir would have heaved a sigh of relief as no one would have been left in the Valley to call for strikes and protests. NIA by summoning Mirwaiz has dispelled the notion that no one can touch him and he enjoys the mass support in the Valley. Time has come for people like Mirwaiz to tell the people how come he accumulated so much of wealth."
It's in place to mention here that the state government had recently withdrawn security cover to Mirwaiz following directions by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to review security and other facilities of all separatist leaders after the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) fidayeen attack on CRPF convoy at Awantipora on Srinagar-Jammu national highway that left 40 jawans martyred.
The sleuths of NIA also conducted searches at the residence of JKLF chief Mohammad Yasin Malik at Maisuma near here on February 26. The NIA and Enforcement Directorate have already arrested about two dozen separatists and businessmen and lodged them in Delhi's Tihar jail for their involvement in alleged terror funding. They included Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) chief Shabir Ahmad Shah, spokespersons of both the factions of the HC Aiyaz Akbar, Advocate Shahidul Islam, Naeem Khan and sons of Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) based Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) Syed Salahuuddin and son and son-in-law of Syed Ali Shah Geelani.
Security forces during raids after Pulwama attack have arrested about 200 leaders of HC, Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) and Jamait-ul-Ahalhadees (JuA) from different parts of the valley.
