Is New Delhi contemplating action against mainstream parties in Kashmir? | Tackling separatists | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 9: Is the Narendra Modi Government contemplating action against "mainstream" parties in Kashmir for their overt and covert support to separatists? Is the Government of India planning to treat such organizations at par with the Hurriyat Conference? If the official statements are any indication, then the answer has to be in the affirmative. Four statements suggest that the New Delhi's whole Kashmir narrative has changed and that it could take some very hard measures to tackle the menace of separatism in Kashmir. One, "the political parties which are coming out in support of banned organizations are making their position clear and are siding with separatists". Two, "their support only helping militancy become stronger". Three, "any party or person supporting separatists is anti national and is playing into the hands of terrorists and Pakistan". And four, "the war against terrorism and militancy is not going to be stopped at any cost and this is a battle that we will win and Government will ensure that militancy is eradicated from the State". This time, the Narendra Modi means business. It appears. The manner in which it banned Jamaat-e-Islami; arrested 100s of Jamaatis; sealed 71 Jamaat's bank accounts, Jamaat's head office at Batmaloo and some madrasas; withdrew security of Hurriyat operatives, including SA Geelani, Yasin Malik and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, and 170 other persons; opened the 30-year-old case against Yasin Malik; and the manner in which it has been dealing with the leadership of the National Conference and the People's Democratic Party all indicate the direction things are moving in the state in general and militant-infested Kashmir Valley. It would not be surprising if the Narendra Modi Government initiates action against the NC and the PDP, which allegedly have been speaking the language of separatists and Pakistan and directly and indirectly fomenting anti-India troubles in Kashmir. It would not be an over-statement if one says that the Kashmiri leaders were never felt so helpless as they have been since June 19, 2018, when the BJP withdrew its support to the Mehbooba Mufti-led coalition government leading to the imposition of the Governor's Rule in the state. |
