Pakistan violates ceasefire in Akhnoor sector | | | Early Times Report
Akhnoor, Mar 9: Pakistan violated ceasefire in the Keri Battal area of Akhnoor sector in Jammu on Saturday. "Indian Army is retaliating strongly to the violation by Pakistan," sources in the Indian Army said. No casualties have been reported so far. Meanwhile Indian and Pakistan armies exchanged heavy fire on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district on Saturday after Pakistan violated the ceasefire, a defence official said. "At about 6 p.m., Pakistan initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by shelling with mortars and firing of small arms along the LoC in Sunderbani sector of Rajouri," Defence Ministry spokesman, Lt Col Devender Anand said. "Indian Army is retaliating effectively." Breaking a two-day lull, the two sides had exchanged heavy fire in the LoC in Poonch district on Friday after Pakistan began targeting Indian positions. Authorities have closed all educational institutions within 5 km distance of the LoC in Poonch and Rajouri districts. Earlier in the day, a Special Police Officer (SPO) was injured in shelling by Pakistani troops in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistani Rangers had at around 1800 hours initiated an unprovoked ceasefire violation by heavy shelling with artillery and firing of small arms along Line of Control (LoC) in Shahpur and Kerni sectors. |
