GoI's Weighing Testing Machine goes defunct at Kathua | How is accuracy of weighing bridges ascertained? | | Arun Trisal Early Times Report KATHUA, Mar 20: The Legal Meteorology Department has failed to use the high-tech mobile weighing and testing machine provided by the government of India to check the accuracy of weighing bridges. The central government had two such machines to Srinagar and Kathua districts almost a decade ago. The inefficiency of the Kathua authorities has rendered the machine defunct. The mobile testing machine is in bad shape, sources said adding nobody seems interested in maintenance and preservation of the machine. Surprisingly, the department never disclosed the availability of highly technical mobile machine for unknown reasons. The negligence of the authorities has raised mahy questions. "If the machine has not been used, how has the accuracy of weighing bridges been ascertained for all these years?" Nasim Bosmati, a local eyewitness confirmed that the machine had not been used for long and parked in premises of a private firm. Kulbir Singh, a weighing owner has disclosed that the department has recently measured the accuracy of weighing bridge, duly receipted and issued certification of verification even without technically testing its accuracy. When contacted to Assistant Controller Kathua, Kuldip Raj accepted availability of weighing machine that could not be used for long. He said that the higher authority did not provide the operator for running the machine. |
