Jammu, Mar 28: Two-day National Seminar on "Inculcating Scientific Temperament among young minds" concluded today at Government College for Women, Parade Ground Jammu. The Seminar was organized by GCW, Parade ground in collaboration with Indian Science congress Association (ISCA), Jammu Chapter, under able guidance of Prof. Hemla Aggarwal. During the two days of seminar a total of four technical sessions including six lectures were delivered by eminent scientists and teachers from scientific background. Students and faculty from different colleges of Jammu region participated in the seminar. On the concluding day three lectures were delivered. First lecture was delivered by Dr K. V. Jaychandran, scientific consultant CSIR-CMLRE (centre for Marine Living Resources and Ecology), Kochi, Kerela. He threw light on what research is and what is its purpose. He further said research should be application oriented. In second lecture Dr J. Nagendra Babu, Asstt. Prof, in Department of Chemical Sciences, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, delivered a lecture on "Surface interactions, Molecule to material". J.Nagendra Babu shared his views on how research in different fields of chemistry can be carried out. Third lecture was delivered by Dr Meenu, Department of Applied Chemistry, Maharaja Ranjit Singh Technical University, Bathinda. She said that the curiosity and thirst to know is the motivation behind the great discoveries. In the valedictory function president ISCA- Jammu Chapter, Prof. M. K. Jyoti was the chief guest. In his address, he stressed upon the importance of scientific temperament in mitigation of environmental and social issues faces by present society. Dr Anju Koul member of organising committee read the report of two days events. Convenor of seminar Prof Shobna Sambyal presented formal vote of thanks. Members of organizing committee Prof. Shobna Samyal, Dr Puja Nanda, Dr Anju Koul, Dr Bhandan Sharma, Dr Chaman Lal, Dr Sapna Sharma, Gourav Gupta, Faheem Rasool and Himanshu Khajuria worked exhaustively, to make event a success. |
