Srinagar, Apr 3: Police today claimed to have arrested an active Lashkar-e-Toiba militant, who was involved in the weapon loot incident at Congress legislator's official residence at Jawahar Nagar last year at Rajbagh area of Srinagar. Reports said that the militant identified as Danish Haneef Wani, a resident of Azad Basti, Natipora Srinagar had come to Rajbagh area to get himself treated at a private hospital but police said that they launched a search on a specific input about Danish's presence in the area. "Acting on a specific lead, we launched a search operation in Rajbagh area and caught the militant alive," a police officer said. In December last year, four weapons were looted from the residence of Congress legislator Muhammad Muzaffar Parray at Jawhar Nagar area of Srinagar. In a statement issued here, a police spokesman said that based on a specific input regarding the movement of a "suspected person" near Kursoo, Rajbagh, Srinagar, a special team of police arrested a person. "On his questioning, he disclosed his identity as Danish Haneef Wani son of Muhammad Haneef Wani, a resident of Azad Basti, Natipora, Srinagar, an active member of Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit," the statement read. It stated that the arrested militant is involved in FIR number 73/2018 under section 395 RPC, 7/25 arms act, 18, 19, 38, 39 ULPA act registered at police station Rajbagh, Srinagar regarding weapon loot incident on December 30, 2018. In the meantime, three persons were detained during nocturnal raids on Vehil village in Shopian district in connection with the Banihal blast case, police said. The arrested persons are Asif Malik, son of Muhammad Yousuf, Fayeem Shah, son of Mohammd Shafi Shah and Umar Shafi, son of Mohd Shafi. They are all residents of Vehil village of Shopian. |
