2 former PDP ministers under scanner in JKPCC scams | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 3: Even as the government has called for a probe into the bungling at the Jammu and Kashmir Project Construction Corporation, two of the ministers who were from the Peoples Democratic Party have allegedly come under scanner. Sources said the government had inputs that the ministers both of whom were "calling the shots in the previous regime" have been accused of facilitating "record breaking corruption in which crores of rupees must have been paid as kickback." Sources said both the ministers are accused of having resorted to allegedly unfair means to benefit mainly their nears and dears in bagging "jobs, promotions and contracts worth millions of rupees." Sources said some of the works executed in Srinagar, Baramulla and south Kashmir districts have been found to be in gross violation of code of conduct as laid down in the JKPCC. Sources said the name of a former Managing Director, who was sidelined on charges of corruption during the previous PDP-BJP regime has also come under scanner. Sources said the said official was likely to be questioned by the investigative agency in the connection with the case as he had allegedly spend crores even on the wedding of his child. Sources said the Raj Bhawan had received complaints of large scale corruption in the working of the JKPCC following which an inquiry was ordered. It is pertinent to mention that the Government on April 2 decided to hand over the investigation of major scams in JKPCC to the Crime branch of JK Police. "This is a major step towards eradication of corruption in the organisation, stopping and eliminating backdoor appointments and bringing in a culture of transparency, probity and efficiency in the organization," the handout said. "After receiving numerous complaints from many quarters about the functioning of JKPCC, particularly relating to corruption in civil contracts, illegality in appointments at multiple levels including at very senior positions, and excessive cost and time overruns, the government appointed a Fact Finding Committee to look into all these complaints. The Fact Finding Committee was chaired by the Principal Secretary (Planning), and had the Divisional Commissioner (Jammu), Commissioner/ secretary (revenue) and MD, JKPCC as members." When contacted s senior official said nothing could be said with clarity at this point of time. "A case has been filed. Let's see how things unfold," the official said on the condition of anonymity. The two persons who were ministers from PDP in the previous regime and have allegedly come under scanner couldn't be contacted for comments. |
