The evil of casteism
4/11/2019 10:48:55 PM
Humara Hashmi

Kaka kalelkar defined
casteism as an over-riding blind and supreme group of loyalty that ignores the healthy social standard of justice, fair play, equality and brotherhood." In the words of K.M Panikkar, casteism is the loyalty to the sub caste translated into political. Casteism refers to loyalty towards a caste. Casteism also embodies identification with a caste. Partiality and rigidity of thoughts are other aspect of casteism. Caste feeling in a society doesn't ordinarily pertain to casteism.
When the feelings of superiority on the basis of caste prevails among the members and when the members wants to secure the interests of their caste in contradiction to other castes, it leads to casteism.
Casteism is the root cause of several social and political problems. The people in power are using it as a tool to strengthen their position and juggle money.
Among others social evil, casteism has been a major one that has hindered the growth of talent in our country. People's have suffered immensely at the hands of this baseless system. Casteism is also been a cause of oppression. Casteism is an unjust system which is ruthlessly exploiting a sections of the society. Casteism is a hampering the growth and development of our country as it bars the actual talent to nurture properly. It also become a basis of hatred among people's belonging to different sections.
Casteism divided the society into several parts. It is a threat to any society as it creates badness and negatively impact the behavior of the individual. It is prevalent in many parts of the world. India has been a victim of casteism since centuries. This evil system has been eating our society and hindering it's development. For a casteist "my caste man and my caste only, right or wrong " is the principle. Casteism goes against the spirit of democracy. It is against the lofty ideal of the constitution. Casteism hinders the growth and development of nationalism. It divide society into a larger numbers of groups and sub groups. There is also division in the same caste. Very often there occurs both inter caste tension and inter caste tension leads to national disintegration. Casteism possess a serious obstacle in the functioning of democracy. It plays a nasty role in elections. Many professional politicians exploits casteism and at elections time ask the people to vote for them on caste considerations and they alsa succeed in their evil design. Even illegitimate and immoral practices are resorted in securing the interests of one's own caste. By promoting narrow royalties, casteism had weakened the modernization of the polity. By retaining outmoded caste cohesion. Casteism crumble down the process of development. By encouraging corruption, nepotism, favouritism and blind caste loyality. Casteism has become pervasive. It has entered into the marrow and bones of a sizeable sections of the society society. Its root has gone deep into Indian soil.
It is the interests of the both the individual and the society that casteism should be eradicated from the Indian social matrix at the earliest. Our politicians actually take advantage of the casteism. This is why the government and the politicians actually have no interest in finishing it. They take advantage of the votes knowing that people of their caste would rather vote for them then for a candidate of another caste.
So the first thing I believe would be necessary for politicians and for government to change their attitudes. They should no longer support the caste system but work against it.
