Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 26: Auto drivers today staged protest demonstration infront of he Transport Commissioner Office. Auto drivers, shouting slogans against traffic police, alleging that they were being harassed unnecessarily. Ram Sirop, leader of the auto union, who led the protest, also alleged that traffic cops treat them badly. Auto drivers are now taking riders on the meter, but in spite of this, they are being challaned by Traffic department . He appealed to the Transport Commissioner to solve their problem. Meanwhile, auto drivers also demanded the hike in autofare . He said that the first two kilometer fare has been fixed at Rs 33 and for the next two kilometers the rent of fourteen rupees is fixed, it is quite low. In this case, the cost of maintenance of petrol and auto is not even completed. They demand that it be increased to the first two kilometers fifty rupees while the next two kilometer should be paid twenty five rupees. |
