Healthcare on crutches in Bani constituency | SDH, PHCs lack specialist doctors, MOs | | G S Asgotra Early Times Report Jammu, May 6: The acute shortage of specialist doctors in Sub District Hospital Bani and its adjoining Primary Health Centres (PHCs) has failed to invite the attention of Health department. Nearly two dozen posts of specialist doctors are lying vacant for many years and nobody seems bothered about it. Sources in the Health department informed that given the shortage of specialist doctors in the lone primer health institution of Bani constituency and PHCs like Dhagger, Koti Chanyar, Macheddi, Guduflail and Lohai, the health care has been hit badly and patients are forced to rush to Jammu for treatment. As per the available information in Sub District Hospital Bani, 12 posts of specialist doctors are vacant including seven posts of Assistant Surgeons, one each post of specialist surgeon, Physician, Paediaterian, Gynaecologist. Besides, one each post of Malaria Inspector, Sup Lab technician, Opthamalic Assistant, Sup Dental Technician, Theatre Assistant, Chest Carier, LlMV and Female worker while three post of Junior Staff Nurse against the sanctioned strength of six, two post of PMA and two post of class-IV, remain vacant. In PHC Dhagger, two posts of Assistant Surgeon, one post of Dental Surgeon and two post of Class-IV are vacant; in PHC Koti Chanyar, 11 posts including two Assistant surgeon, one Dental Surgeon, health educator are vacant. The document also reveals that 11 each posts of Specialist doctors and other allied staff are vacant in PHC Macheddi and PHC Gudiflail, while two each Assistant surgeons post and one each dental surgeon are vacant in PHC Lohai and PHC Malhar. Sources informed that due to absence of the specialist doctors including Medical Officers in these health institutions, the paramedical staffs are running the show, and in any case of emergency, the paramedical staff only provide first aid and refer the patient to CHC Basholi and Billaware for treatment. |
